Privacy Policy
Effective date: 27 October 2026
This policy explains how the operator of buildar.co.nz handles personal information under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020. BuildAR New Zealand is the name used on this website. For privacy questions, contact kiaora@buildar.co.nz.
1. Information this static site handles
This site has no account registration, comment feature, advertising pixels or analytics tools. It does not ask for personal information to read articles, and the site does not set advertising or analytics cookies. When a page is requested, the hosting service may process technical information such as an IP address, browser details, the requested page, referring page and request time for delivery, security and troubleshooting. The host controls its own logs and retention settings.
If you use the contact form, your browser opens an email draft addressed to us. The form fields are not submitted to or stored by this website. Information you choose to include in an email is handled by your email provider and the receiving mailbox. Please do not email passwords, payment details, account credentials, biometric data or other sensitive information.
2. Why information may be used
Technical request data may be used to deliver pages, maintain security, diagnose service faults and respond to misuse. Information in a message may be used to reply, manage a site query, keep an appropriate business record or meet a legal obligation. We do not use contact details for advertising or sell personal information.
3. Notice about collection
Where the operator collects personal information directly, it will take reasonable steps to explain the collection, its purpose, intended recipients, the operator's contact details, any applicable law and the person's access and correction rights. If information is received indirectly, the operator will take the reasonable steps required by Information Privacy Principle 3A as soon as reasonably practicable after collection, unless an exception applies. See Office of the Privacy Commissioner guidance on IPP 3A.
4. Service providers and overseas handling
Website hosting and email providers may process information on the operator's behalf. Depending on provider infrastructure and your email settings, information may be stored or accessed outside New Zealand. Any overseas disclosure by an agency must meet Information Privacy Principle 12. The operator does not knowingly disclose message contents to unrelated third parties, except where needed to provide the service, protect people or comply with law.
5. Security and retention
Reasonable safeguards should be used to protect information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure. Email is not guaranteed to be secure in transit. Technical logs are controlled in part by the hosting provider. Messages are retained only for as long as reasonably needed to respond, maintain relevant records and meet legal obligations, then securely deleted or de-identified where practicable.
If a privacy breach has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, the operator will assess its notification duties under the Privacy Act and notify affected people and the Privacy Commissioner as soon as practicable when required.
6. Access, correction and complaints
You may ask for access to or correction of personal information held about you by emailing kiaora@buildar.co.nz. Include enough information to identify your request, but do not send identity documents unless we ask through a suitable channel. The Privacy Act generally requires an access request response within 20 working days. See Privacy Act 2020, section 44. You may also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
7. Changes
This policy may be updated if site features, service providers or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected here.
8. Website information and liability
Articles and other site material are general information only. They are not professional, legal, financial, engineering, safety or gambling advice, and should not be the sole basis for a decision. The operator makes no promise that material is complete, current or suitable for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for loss arising from reliance on the site or an interruption to access. Nothing excludes or limits a right or guarantee that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable New Zealand consumer rights. See Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, section 43.
9. New Zealand privacy law
This policy is intended to reflect the Privacy Act 2020, including IPP 3A, effective from 1 May 2026 under the Privacy Amendment Act 2025. OPC guidance covers security safeguards (IPP 5) and overseas disclosures (IPP 12).
